Factors that increase risk of malignancy in Solitary Nodule Thyroid

  • Previous head and neck irradiation,
  • Rapid growth
  • Symptoms of compression or invasion such as dysphagia, dysphonia, and hemoptysis
  • Male sex
  • Pain
  • Age younger than 20 or older than 60
  • Family history of thyroid cancer or MEN syndrome
  • Enlargement of nodule while receiving thyroid suppression therapy is especially troublesome
  • Low iodine diet
