What are the interpretations of Valsalva maneuver?

Valsalva positive indicates a patent Eustachian tube and a negative valsalva indicates a blocked Eustachian tube.

When the membrane is intact, the TM moves outwards on valsalva when the ET is patent. In a perforated TM, patient can be feel the air gushing out of his ear or when the ear is wet, the examiner can see bubbles of air through the perforation. This also indicates a positive valsalva.
